These images offer a glimpse into the heart and soul of Shafik Ahmed Parker. These are more than just pictures. These are the stories, the inspirations and the people who have shaped him.

Earliest picture of me, taken in 1956, at the age of nine.
As a young medical doctor.
Shipped off to South Africa on the SS Karanja in 1950.

As a night shift worker in gumboots and oversized overalls, at a pharmaceuticals factory, during my second year of university (1969) when I had just one lecture and one practical per week to attend.
My mother Khadija, with my son Taariq and daughter Sarah, during her stay with me in Cape Town, in the mid-1990s. My mother was my father’s fourth wife and she bore eight children. I was the second eldest.
The Vashishti River in my village in Songaon, where I learnt to swim and almost drowned.

We completed matric together, and we both studied Medicine at the University
of Cape Town.
As an adult, I visited my village primary school in Kalusta, where I completed grade 5 and part of grade 6, during my first trip back to India in 1957. I spent two years there and then returned to South Africa.
On my 76th birthday (02 December 2023), standing on the rooftop of Rondebosch Medical Centre, with UCT and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in the background.
Recipient of the Distinguished Surgeon Award from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town, in 2018 for my services to teaching. I still teach these days and I love it.

My daughter Rosanne passed away tragically in 2003 at the age of twenty-two.
